can't access any office program

Please help! I keep getting error message 1324. The
folder path 'Program Files' contains and invalid
character. I can't open a new office document. I am using
Windows 98. Thanks for any help.

There are several viruses which change/corrupt the 'Program Files' folder,
do you have an up-to-date virus scanner?
have you used it lately?
Also try a scandisk, if it'll run.
