Can't access PST file with Outlook 2010

D

drumz

I had a harddrive fail so I got a new harddrive and Windows 7 Pro too because
the machine is OEM. I had just backed up Outlook so I had a fairly recent PST
file. But now, when I try to import it, I get an error saying I don't have
the rights to access the file? Huh, I created it!!! So I thought well maybe I
have to log in as Admin bit couldn't see how to do it.

THIS IS REALLY SERIOUS AS I NEED THAT FOR MY BUSINESS!!!

How do I get access to that file???

Thanks very much!

So why are you using a beta version for your business?
OEM is of no consequence
How did you backup outlook and to what?
Locate the pst in your Documents folder, ensure any read only flag is off.
Within Outlook open the data file.

Why not? I can still access online if I have a conplete failure, I just
prefer to use OL. I backed it up in Outlook. I tried to change the attributes
of the file from the command prompt but it says I don't have permission. OEM
is of consequence because I don't have disks for the OS and that's part of
the reason I bought
a new HD and W7.

If you can access online what was the purpose of this useless statement?
"THIS IS REALLY SERIOUS AS I NEED THAT FOR MY BUSINESS!!!"

I can only assume you're brain-dead for installing a beta *anything* on a
main machine. You deserve what you get.

D

Look, maybe it isn't serious to you, but it cuts my production time down and
that's importamt...
I was an M$ product tester for 5 years and take precautions. So if you can't
help, get a life instead of lambasting people you know nothing about,
JUNIOR!!!!
Sheesh!

Michael

As a former product tester I thought you would've remembered your first
lesson in Testing 101. I'll refresh your brain-dead brain.
NEVER INSTALL BETA SOFTWARE ON A MAIN MACHINE!!!
Oh, and slipping a prophylactic on your keyboard is not a valid precaution.

D

drumz

Again, thanks for NOTHING!

Also, for what its worth, what I use it for it is STABLE!!!

Get a freak'n life dude!

Are you a jerk in real life too? Wassa matter, got picked on too much and
were to much of a wimp to retaliate so now your a big tough guy on M$ forums?

You need to get out more... Or is it too scary to leave Mom's basement?

For anyone that cares.
I removed the read attribute from the file by going to the command line (Run
-> cmd [RETURN] now in the command window (DOS prompt) enter: attrib -r
filename.pst and press [RETURN]. Type exit to close the window.
I was then able to import the PST file and all is good.

D

DL

Well thats what I told you to do.
You should also know, as a seasoned user that Import/Export is rarely the
way to handle native outlook data

Well, if it's really serious, you shouldn't be using beta software to access
it. You should never run beta software on a critical system.

You might also post this over to the beta forum for Office 2010, where lots
of the beta users are hanging out.

Actually, no. I was/am the other guy...and FYI, these aren't Microsoft
*forums*. You're posting to a Microsoft Usenet newsgroup where the planet
can see what a doofus you are.
You need to get out more... Or is it too scary to leave Mom's basement?

All the comforts of home. Why would I leave?
