Can't access word documents with beta 2

C

Chris

Hi, this question is mostly linked to the questions previously asked under
@Major problems with beta 2 refresh' which, I quote, states:

"I had been running the Beta 2 of Office no problem. When I installed the
Technical Refresh, I now have a problem where non of the programmes will
load there relevant files.
Can anyone help as all microsoft do is direct you to this page.
Thanks - Malcolm."

The end result was that all of his office programme had to be completely
deleted and reinstalled.

Firstly, (as I never read) does anyone know how long the first beta lasts,
and most importantly, WILL I LOOSE ALL MY OFFICE CALENDER ENTRIES! HOW COULD
I SAVE THEM!

Hi Chris,

A common fix for the problem of not being able to open documents once you have updated Office 2007 Beta 2 with the Technical Refresh
patch is, if running a Symantec-Norton protection product that from the Miscellaneous tab of the settings for that product you turn
off the 'Office Plugin' and restart the Office 2007 apps. Uninstalling shouldn't be required.

Office 2007 Beta 2 expires on 01Feb2007 and with the Technical Refresh installed, 31Mar2007.

If you're not planning on then purchasing MS Office 2007 you may want to check with the folks in the Outlook newsgroups (links
below) on what to do with 2007 Outlook calendar entries and include information on what product/version you would plan on using
after that date.

I don't see a miscellaneous tab on the Virus protection part of Symantic.
Where should it be located.

I can't locate a "Miscellaneous tab" on Symantic anti-virus. Where would it
be located?

Ask Symantec.

I did. They don't know why the new beta is causing all these problems.

Did you ask them where the "Miscellaneous tab" went?

You chose to use a beta on your production machine. Be prepared for
problems, and other software that won't work with it. Beta. Beta. Beta.

|I did. They don't know why the new beta is causing all these problems.

Hi M.H.,

What version of Norton are you using? If you have the icon in your Taskbar/system tray, right click and there should be a settings
or options choice there.

Thank you Bob Buckland for the helpful (at last) answer! That worked and all
is well. After reading the replies to other questions on this discussion
group, you seem to be the one person who actually has the answers. ;-)

Thanks for the information - I had a serious panic as I couldn't open any
docs and even add-in templates refused to open after installing the update. I
was all poised to uninstall the update before I checked the forum as a last
resort.

I am running Norton Internet Security 2007- found the settings in the
control centre under Internet Security tab - "Additional Options - Virus and
Spyware Protection Options - Advanced Options - Miscellaneous.

Maybe a warning note on the download page would help others who are stuck in
the same position.
