Can't "Add" a word to the dictionary

I've read through the basic Help file on the subject, and its just not
working for me. The "add" option is still greyed out. Do I have to
download another dictonary from somewhere? I have "Custom dictionary"
selected - there are no other options. Thanks for any pointers.

Thanks Beth - I haven't solved it at the first try, but the answer is
in there somewhere!

Then I don't think it's there. There's no dictionaries to download from
anywhere.
To clarify your situation:

Which Help topic are you referring to?
Exactly where is the grayed out Add button?
Where do you have "Custom dictionary selected"?

What have you checked so far:

You created a custom dictionary?
You loaded the custom dictionary?
Does the custom dictionary have a language?
What language is the word that won't Add?
Will other words Add?

Fantastic - all sorted. "Custom Dictionary" checked and no language
selected - just as the article said!
