Can't add or change calendar items

I suddenly cannot change existing scheduled items and cannot add items (meetings, events, etc.) to my calendar. This is my personal home calendar so it is not essential, but rather irritating. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

What happens when you try? Any error messages, and if so, what are they
(exact text please)? What version of Outlook?
