Cant add or delete Outlook Address Book (Outlook 2000)

Hi

I've gathered from what else I've read on the board that my Contacts list is
corrupted as I cant view it from the drop down box in a new message or
anywhere else that it is supposed to be available.

The Contacts folder properties wont even allow me to clear or check the box
under Outlook Address Book to "show this folder as an email address book".

It happened when I went back from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2000 (we didn't
realise the new application was for one computer only and we couldn't put it
on our laptop as well as our pc!) and I have deleted all of office 2003,
office 2000 and reinstalled office 2000 but still not working.

I also get an error message if I go into Tools/Services and try to add a
personal address book or outlook address book as it says "The action could
not be completed".

What should I do to correct this?

You failed to post an accurate account of your version. Outlook 2000 comes
in 2 completely different modes, one of which does not even use the Outlook
Address Book. State your mail support mode. Line 2 of Help | About if you
don't know.

It says corporate or workgroup, which means nothing to me as i am a private
user and application was bought for private use.

You failed to post an accurate account of your version. Outlook 2000 comes
in 2 completely different modes, one of which does not even use the Outlook
Address Book. State your mail support mode. Line 2 of Help | About if you
don't know.

That's still the better mode to use if you want to solve problems like this
one. Just reset the Outlook Address Book. Instructions have been posted here
countless times:
It is not unusual for the Outlook Address Book to “lose track†of the
connection to its Contacts Folder when you move or import your PST or update
your Outlook version or operating system. Use the following steps to reset
the connection. Note that in some instances you may actually have to remove
the Outlook Address Book completely from your Profile, close Outlook, and
then re-add it before you can get it to work.
Go to Tools > Services. Make sure the Outlook Address Book service is
listed. If not, add it. Next, R click on the Contact folder or folders you
want the OAB to display, choose "Properties", go to the Outlook Address Book
tab and check the "Show this folder as an E-mail address book" box. You may
also need to go to Tools > Options > Addressing Tab and choose to show your
Contacts folder.

Russ - the problem is that nothing is showing up in the boxes to select
Contacts as an address book, which is what I described. Also, in the
properties, the check box "Show this folder as an e-mail address book" is
there but I am not able to get into it to check it as it is disabled. This
is my whole problem.

As Russ said, you must remove the Outlook Address Book service from your
mail profile (if it's there) and then add it in again.

In Tools>Services, if you see "Outlook Address Book", select it and click
Remove (or Delete - I don't remember the exact name of the button). Stop
and restart Outlook. Then click Tools>Services and add it in again. Stop
and restart Outlook one more time. You should now be able to click the
check box you mentioned.
