cant add signature when spellcheck is enabled (MS OUTLOOK 2000)

The signature option 'greys' out (i.e. becomes unavaliable) whenever I enable
MS word as my spellchecking editor in MS OUTLOOK 2000. Is there a way to fix
this as I need spellcheck as well as my signature!!!
