Can't add to Dictionary in Word X

I recently had a catastrophic crash and had to reinstall all my software,
including Office X. I also downloaded and installed all the updates.

I now find that when I spell-check a document, the "Add" option is grayed
out. Any idea what's going on?

out. Any idea what's going on?

Two options that comes to my mind: either the pref file has been
corrupted and Word cannot find the proper custom dictionary anymore
(reset it in the prefs) or the custom dictionary itself is corrupted.
You can always try to open the custom dictionary in a text editor
(BBEdit or even TextEdit) to check whether there could be weird entries
in the files that would prevent Word from using it properly.
