Can't add to list

I have an Access file that we record our concrete test results in. There
is a field where the area of the specimen is input, where there is a
table or list that drops down to offer some values that are common. I'm
trying to add another value to this list but am told that I need to
choose a value from the list or that the value I'm inputting is not on
the list. I've gone into design view and have accessed the properties.
When I attempt to change "Limit to List" to No the message pops up that
the first visible column is not equal to the Bound Column and to adjust
the Column width first. ColumnWidth is 0", 1" and the Bound Column is 0.
If I change anything in the columwidth the box shows text instead of
numbers. By the way, I'm a total novice if you haven't determined that
by now and will appreciate any help. Thanks. Ted

Ted,

You need to add the new value(s) to the combo box's row source. That will
be either a table, query or list of values. Look at the Data tab on the
Properties palette for the combo. If the RowSource Type is set to
"table/query" then add your new line items to that source shown in the
RowSource property. If it's set to "Value List" then the row source will
contain the values separated by a semi-colon.

Keith, thanks much. Now, how do I access the item listed in RowSource? It
says "SampleType" but shows no path or any other information. There is the
build button but that just starts a new build with blanks, I don't want to
lose what's already in the SampleType list.
