Cant apply PMS colors to "wordart"

using publisher 2007

I know how to apply PMS colors to general text, shapes, strokes, etc... in
publisher and Im doing what seems to be the same way with some items that are
using "Wordart". I select the item, click Format Wordart, for Fill color, i
choose the PMS color that I have already defined in the document, then hit
ok. I then convert to PDF to view the seperations and everything separates
properly except for the Wordart items. What am I doing wrong?
