I have a freshly installed copy of Office 2003 Professional on Windows 2003
Standard Edition Terminal Server, which is running as a guest OS under
Virtual Server 2005. It installed cleanly. I customized the install only
by turning off the Office Assistant (cheaper than shooting it, if less
satisfying). Oh, and I removed the install source files because I have the
CD saved as an ISO file that is mounted as a virtual CD.
Every time I try to install the Office updates, as soon as it tries to
install either SP1 or the Junk email filter, I get an immediate error
message saying "Installation Unsuccessful". The Event log shows Event ID
2, source OfficeUpdateV3, Information:
V3_2|512169|INSTALL|OUTFLTR_6504_INTL||2005_06_13
11:52:42|9|FAIL|0X80070002|The system cannot find the file specified.|
KB Article 884298 points to a registry problem finding the original
installation source. I checked, it looks fine (points to D:\); the CD
image is there and quite accessible with Explorer.
So, any idea? What file can't it find?
