Can't change font default

I go to TOOLS/OPTIONS/GENERAL and change the standard font
there. then i exit as i'm prompted to do but the font
doesn't change when i re-open excel. it still shows the
old font. I've changed the font before and it has worked
but it's been a while. anyone know of a bug in the system
preventing font from changing?
-thanks, scott

There is no bug here. You have to save such customised defaults in book.xlt
(and sheet.xlt) in your startup folder. See "templates, customizing workbook
defaults" in Help for details.

Changing the default font as you did will not alter previously saved
workbooks.

Will affect new workbooks only.

For previously saved and new files you can modify the Style instead.

Format>Style>Normal>Modify. Change your Font here and all workbooks will
change to that style if they have been created using "Normal" style.
