Can't clear the cell

I have a cell I'm trying to put a serial number in. It like 11 digits long.

I select clear contents. I've formatted the cell to general.

But when I hit enter it says 2.222222+11

I have no idea what this means. Any ideas. Thanks

In General format, XL will try to fit the value into the cell width,
using Scientific Notation if necessary (it actually returns

2.2222222E+11

which means 2.2222222 x 10^11

To display the value in regular notation, either make the cell wide
enough to hold the value (i.e., at least a width of 11), or choose
Format/Cells/Alignment/Shrink to Fit.

On re-reading, I'm confused. Are you saying that 2.222222E+11 appears
*after* you select Edit/Clear Contents for that cell?

Do you have an event macro running that would place the value there?

Yes JE. This is happening after I have selected clear contents.

What comes up is 2.1224E+11

And I get this even if I make the column very very wide.

I don't know what an event macro is or why is would place a value there.
Can a value still be in a cell even though you cleared contents? How can I
check this?
