Can't close Word

After closing all documents, I can't close Word normally. The computer gets
hung and I have to ALT-CTL-DEL out. When I do that, some of the documents I
just worked on get corrupted or aren't save properly. I've tried reinstalling
Word, but had the same results.

I'm using MS Word 2003 as part of the Office 2003 package & Windows XP, SP2.

The problem only seems to occur in larger files with 'markup' turned on. I"m
also interfacing MathType 6.0. Any guesses what the problem could be?
