Can't convert floating picture to inline

F

Fred Bartlett

When I copy a ChemDraw formula into Word 2001 via Paste Special, Word
inserts it into the document as a floating picture. (So far as I can
tell, there is no other way of inserting the graphic in such a way
that it will be visible.) I, of course, want it to be inline, since I
need intelligent -- rather than Microsoft -- control of its final
location in the document; but I can't choose "In line with text" from
Format Picture | Layout.

Why should that option be disallowed? I have not found anything either
in this ng or in Word's Help [sic] that indicates that there are any
situations where what I am currently experiencing happens.

I'm bummed ...

Thanks in advance!

Hi

There's more than one way to do this, but it sounds like this is something
you do often.

Here's what I would do (others will offer different suggestions I am sure).

In Word's Tool menu choose Customize. Click the Commands tab. In the right
hand side scroll down to InsertFrame. Drag that command to a toolbar (it
looks kinda like a little flag on the toolbar). Click OK to close the
Customize dialog box.

Paste an image into Word. While the image is selected (when it has the
little handles around it) click the Insert Frame button. You should now be
able to position the picture anywhere you like by dragging it. You can use
the Formatting Palette to control how text wraps around the image.
