Can't copy (item not collected) or paste in any Office programs

When user highlights text in a document (of her own creation) in any
application (Word, Outlook, etc.) and tries to copy (using CTRL-C or the
icon) the Clipboard pops up an "Item not Collected" message and the Paste
option remains grayed out. I've run a complete virus scan on the machine and
came up empty. Any thoughts?

I ended up installing SP3 and utilizing the "Repair Office" function (but DID
NOT check the recreate shortcuts option). That seemed to resolve the issue.
