Can't create a chart at all

I can enter four simple numbers in cells, one on top of another, click for inserting a simple one line chart, and I get a flat line across the top of the chart and the number scale on the left is always in % rather than the number format chosen, whether General, Currency or whatever. Once in a blue moon the chart creates properly. Some glitch here. Anyone know what it can be?

What you're selecting is not "a simple one line chart" - it's a 100% Stacked
Line chart which isn't appropriate for your data. Use the first one - Line.
Even though the button may "look" like two lines it will only generate one
line if you have only one data series. [The Marked Line type will also work
for a single data series.]
