Can't create a new pub using a template

I'm not new to previous versions of Pub, but very new to Pub 2007. Last week
I created a postcard using a template and a tent card by starting with a
greeting card template and then customizing it. Yesterday, I needed to
create another postcard, but hit a snag. When I used the templates last
week, after I selected the one I wanted, a drop down arrow appeared on the
right side to allow me to create it. Also the customize options on the right
to change the color scheme, page size, etc. would let me change stuff on the
templates page. Now all the options are grayed out and when I tried double
clicking the postcard template I wanted, it said "Publisher cannot complete
that operation" and took me to a blank page. ????? I tried pulling up the
postcard I did last week to just change everything that way, but it won't let
me double click on a text box to change the words or anything else. Also the
customize tools that normally pop up on the left side beside the regular tool
bar do not come up. Almost everything in the menus are grayed out. Did I
somehow unknowingly turn on some kind of read-only protection???? Please
help...I really need to get this out today by noon. This is my first time
using a discussion group so I'm really hoping to get an expert out there to
give me a quick answer!

I assumed that I had because I had used it already to create stuff. And the
first time I pulled up Microsoft Word right after we got the laptop, I had to
type in the 25-digit product key from the CD. Again I assumed that once I
typed in the code in one program in the Office suite, it would activate the
entire suite of products. Maybe I was mistaken? How do you check to see if
the program has been activated?

The Activation is under Help, when you click activate product a dialogue will
come up saying it is already activated if it is.

The next question would have to be is your Office installation a trial?

After reading your last post, I went into the help and figured it out.
Evidently just entering the 25-key product code does not automatically
activate it. Everytime that dialog box came up, I clicked cancel because I
thought it was asking me to purchase the office professional version. We
bought the business version and it was preloaded on my laptop. I have now
activated everything and have created my postcard. Next question is how to
print 4 to a page. I just sent you a post to the one you replied to about
choosing the Avery template.

I sort of answered the post above, but I had forgotten what version Publisher
you had.

File, page setup, type postcard in the "search for templates", scroll down to
Avery US Letter, there you will find 3263.

Mary, you have been SOOOOOO helpful! I wish I had known about how to search
for templates before because I had to finesse a page setup to make it fit
another Avery postcard size I had that was 2 per page, but the number
template wasn't there. You have answered all my questions today...even about
the activation. You must work for MicroSoft?? Thanks again!!!!

Nope, don't work for Microsoft. Just a volunteer. Thanks for posting back your
success, it is appreciated.
