Can't create disk-based web?

E

Eric Weller

I installed FP2003 today and now when I try to open an existing disk-based
web, or create a new one, I get a message box reporting:

"This feature requires Microsoft Frontpage. If you already ahve Frontpage,
it may require reinstalling or you may need to install a different version of
FrontPage. You may also save to an HTTP location and retry this operation."

This is just my working directory, not my live site...I don't wanna save it
on an HTTP location.

Ideas?

Open FP 2003 and run Detect and Repair from the Help Dropdown.

Yeah, I actually ran with all the obvious things before posting. Don't you
find that the *last* thing computer people do is ask for help? I'm through
the remove, reboot, reinstall class of answers, and the few suggestions that
a good "Google" presented.

I'm now at the point where I'm looking for things like "Gosh Eric, have you
checked to make sure that your IRP stack size setting isn't larger than the
day of the month? Don't forget that if the relative humidity is an odd
number and your service pack level is an even number that you have to have
the site published to a server with an FQDN ending in 'Y'...." and such.

I do appreciate you taking the time, though.

Well, you forgot to re-calibrate your tinfoil beanie.

;-)

Actually, try this if you haven't already.
Go here: http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm
and download FP Cleaner.

Run the functions that:
Clear the FrontPage Temporary files.
Clear the Cache(.web) files.
Restore Default toolbars and Menus.

Let us know if anything changes or not.

My next recommendation after FP Cleaner would be to uninstall, reboot, run a good registry
cleaner such as Regseeker, reboot and reinstall.

Well, most of us here are not mindreaders. We do *not* know that you ran
with all the obvious, because you didn't tell us. And, we can't assume
anything.

Huh? Who accused you of reading minds?

I was clarifying my position so we could all skip ahead a few steps. Don't
be so defensive.

Not being defensive at all. Just pointing out your arrogance.
