can't create versions of a document

I uploaded a document to project web. Then I my desktop I made a change to
it and uploaded it again. I selected the 'overwrite' checkbox and picked
the same file. Why doesn't it create a new version?
Someone said if i put my mouse over the filename I will see all the
versions, this does not happen. I also, don't see a 'Version History' to
select.
Thanks

You need to check out the orignal version from the Document library, make
changes to it, and then save the document. Each time you do this, the
system will create a new version of that document. To see the version
history of any document, do the following:

1. Navigate to the document library for the project in question
2. Float your mouse pointer over the document in the list of project
documents
3. When you see the drop-down arrow appear on the document, click the
drop-down arrow
4. From the drop-down menu, select the Version History option

Please note that the current version of a document is always the latest
version. If you hover your mouse pointer over any version, you will see
another drop-down arrow. If you click the drop-down arrow for the version,
you will see View, Restore, or Delete a version. Hope this helps.

arrow, and click Edit in Microsoft Office Word
6. Edit the document as you wish

8. Float your mouse pointer over the document again, click the drop-down
arrow, and click the Check In option

Hope this helps.

We have word 2002, Again. I 'm sorry if I not stating the problem
correctly. I don't want to update the document on-line I want to upload a
new version. Neither are working as stated.
I can't click the edit dropdown. Also, when I upload I can't get versions
to be created.

I believe you need Office 2003 to get the full functionality of documents in
Project Server 2003. If I am wrong about this, I will gladly invite others
to correct me.

I'm not sure I can enumerate every feature that is not available, but
following is a quote from page 257 in our book for Project Server
administrators: "The full version of the Office 2003 web components,
available only to users of Office 2003, allows you to create, open, and edit
Office documents in the web browser, avoiding the need to download and
upload the document each time. This feature will not work for users of
earlier Office versions." Since you are using an earlier version of Office,
then those features will not be available to you, nor will the Versioning
feature you seek. Hope this helps.
