Can't customize numbered list

T

Tom Cowdery

I'm sure this has come up before, but I haven't been able to figure out
how to search the list archives.

I use numbered lists in 80% of my documents - but the standard list
doesn't fit my needs. I've tried everything that I can think of to try
to set the default numbered list to my preferences, but nothing that I
have tried works.

What I want to do is something like what is shown below. I don't need
to go more than three levels deep, but I need the first level to be a
number with no indent.
1. Blah
a. Blah
i. Blah
ii. Blah
b. Blah
2. Blah

Any help would be appreciated.

Well, my formatting didn't come out too well using tabs. Let me try
again with spaces.

1. Blah
a. Blah
i. Blah
ii. Blah
b. Blah
2. Blah

I used to use Wordperfect and Wordpro, and it was extremely easy to get
either one to do what I am trying to do here. I'm sure I'm overlooking
something. Again, any help would be appreciated.

Via Google. Click on Groups, then Advanced Group Search.

I can't get to this list via Google, so I didn't think that would work.
I'll try again. Thanks.

See http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html If you
start with the first pane in the Outline Numbered list gallery, you're most
of the way there.
Thanks for the link. I glanced at it and was a little surprised by how
much work it appears to take to do this - especially considering how
easy it was to customize numbered lists in Word's competitors. Maybe it
won't be as bad as it looks when I actually get into it.

Thanks again.

I can. Google.com, click Groups, enter microsoft.public.word.numbering click
Google Search. Produces group with all recent threads. Unless you are at
work and somehow they have limited your access? You have to go into Groups
from the main Google page.
