can't delete button from toolbar

Hi

I can't delete a button (for a macro, which I added myself a long time ago) from the Standard toolbar. Actually, I can command-drag it off the toolbar, but then when I click OK in the Customize dialog, it reappears again! What can I do to really get rid of it? Is this some permission issue? Help! Thanks

Bob

Without summoning the Customize dialog, hold down the Alt key, and use the
left mouse button to drag the button off of the toolbar, (an X appears next
to the button when you drag it off of the toolbar) and release the mouse
button.

Does the button stay gone now?

It may be in an Add-In rather than in normal.dot or normal.dot may be
read-only.

Tools > Templates and Add-Ins...

Uncheck all the add-ins and see if the command goes away.

Thanks for the idea, but there weren't any global templates or add-ins..

Thanks for replying. I guess I didn't mention I'm on a Mac (OS10.3), I found my way here from Mactopia and assumed this was a Mac-specific group, sorry

So Alt = Option and I only have one mouse button. Without being in Customize, Alt-drag doesn't budge it. In Customize, Alt-drag does drag it off, but then it pops back when I click OK (like with command-drag)

Now I don't think it's a permission issue, either, since I have the same problem as the admin. FYI, this is Word X SR 1

Any other ideas

Oh, well, you should have said.... :)

Right-click is control-click on a Mac, though if you use Word a lot it is
worth buying a two-button mice, apple makes horrible mice anyhow.

In that case, I think you open up the Tools | Customize dialog but DON'T
command-drag or option-drag the button off, just click and drag (although
in OS 9 cmd-drag and drag promise to delete the button for me).

However, the real issue could be that you are not properly updated, there
have been several Office X updates. That could be causing the glitch in the
behavior of Tools | Customize.

Many links for you below re Mac ngs and updating:

See here to make sure you are fully updated:

The Mactopia page is supposed to send one to the Mac-specific ngs via
Google, see below.

For Mac-specific problems that involve glitches with Word, or
software/hardware interactions or installation issues rather than
manipulating Word itself to produce a document, you are probably better off
posting in a Mac newsgroup:

microsoft.public.mac.office.word
microsoft.public.mac.office
microsoft.public.mac.office.excel
microsoft.public.mac.office.powerpoint
microsoft.public.mac.office.entourage

You can access these through the MS site, via Google Groups, or by setting
up a newsreader.

For direct links to the Google interface for Mac NGs:

Newsreaders are usually most efficient--here's a link on how to configure a
newsreader (e.g. Entourage or Outlook Express)

ewsgroupsetup>

Here's a link on how to spamproof your address to protect it if using
Entourage:

For the most part, Word on the Mac is very similar to WinWord. Internal
manipulations might be on different menus, but are all there. Macros are at
VBA5, equivalent to Word 97. See here for more info (might not work in
Safari, sorry):

Same thing. Comes off the toolbar, then pops back onto it after I click OK

It turned out I was at 10.1.2. Thanks for the links, I'm now at 10.1.5. But it's still happening. :-

I'll try the Mac Word group, too..
