Can't delete email from Inbox

M

Matt Wood

I have several users with an email from an old user stuck in their Inbox. If
looking through webmail the preview pane is blank except for the message
saying Page Cannot Be Displayed. When I try to delete this email I get an
error saying that it has already been moved or deleted. I have tried hitting
Shift Delete and that hasn't helped either.

Users going nuts, please help.

It sounds like the message is corrupt/damaged/ something along those lines.
I've had the same problem and I can usually delete the message using
Exmerge.

Set Exmerge to be in Archive mode, it will give you a warning about removing
things from storage but that is exactly what you want. That's done in the
Options window. Also in the Options window is a Message Details tab where
you can provide the subject line of the message you want to zap. Word of
caution: if it is a very generic subject line, you should further narrow
your request by date range and/or folder, to prevent/minimize accidental
removal of messages you want.

If that does not work, download mdbvu32.exe from the Microsoft web site (I
am no good at finding things on their site or else I would provide a link).
This tool takes a fair bit of getting used to so make sure you read the
Readme/instructions all the way through and practice on your own self first.
But you can delete the undeletable using this tool, once you get the hang of
it. If your users are like mine, you will benefit from asking them to move
whatever they can out of the Inbox and into folders, at least temporarily,
while you use the tool. The interface is not the nicest thing I have ever
seen, and the emptier the Inbox is, the easier your job will be.

Between these two tools, I have never found a message that we could not
eventually delete.

The email is still there. I tried both Exmerge and the mdbvu32 program.
Exmerge seemed to work but when I checked the users email the frozen email is
still there. It keeps marking itself as an unread email no matter what you do
and any attempt to delete brings and error saying it has been moved, deleted
or access is denied.

I actually did not find a complete solution. I believe that the only way is
to set up Outlook for each user then delete the email. The server seems to
allow this. I am not sure if it works 100% through.

outlook express will not allow me to open my delete folder.
they say possible causes are: Low disk space or Low memory.
my Block sender system is also not working, unless I put a sub-folder in my
deleted folder and phyisically move those emails into that new deleted
sub-folder. at that point, I can block the sender and also delete the mail
altogether.

Please help.
