Can't delete email from Journal Mailbox - Strange One!

Hi,

At my place of work, using Outlook 2000 or 2003, Exchange 2003,
Journal Mailbox with Journaling enabled, mailbox manager running every
day on this mailbox deleting items older than 30 days. Currently there
are around 40,000 emails in this folder, backdating to 4th Feb 08
which is fine as they are all within the 30 days time frame. However
there is also a block of a few hundred emails that I can't delete
dated between:

12-15th May 2007
12th-15th June 2007

I can only assume the mailbox manager was unable to delete these
automatically last year. When i press the delete button on any of
these emails, i get "Unknown error". When I press shift + del at same
time, I get the message "The item could not be deleted. It was either
moved or already deleted, or access was denied". I can't move the
emails, nor see them in the preview pane. Message in preview pane
"This item contains active content that cannot be displayed........"

I have tried:
- using the network administrator account, with full access on a
terminal server using Outlook 2000
- using my own network administrator account using Outlook 2003 with
full mailbox rights to the Journal user account
- re-creating the mail profile on the terminal server
- disabling the client anti-virus on access scanner
- stopping the Exchange anti-virus protection temporarily
(Groupshield)

Now for the interesting bit, when I logon to a new computer using the
Journal account (creating a new profile) and configure Outlook, The
May and June 2007 emails are not there! What is going on here?

Thanks, Chris.
