Can't delete tasks from My Task screen in PS2007

The tasks are completed but when I check them and click delete it does
nothing - they continue to display on MyTask screen - just with a line
through them.

How can I get them to be removed?

When you do that, you're actually staging the system to send a delete task
request to the PM of the plan. If you now selected to update that task, the
PM would receive the request to completely remove the task from the plan.
The task will continue to appear for the number of days set in the system as
the threshold for "current" tasks, which is set to 10 days by default. You
can ask your team if they'd be happier with 5 days and change the setting.
