Can't display Tasks/Resource/Track/Report panes.

I have a Project 2003 book and using Project 2007. In the book it says t o
click on Tasks on the Tool Bar and the Tasks Pane along the left side should
show up. But it doesn't for me? I can click on any of the
Tasks/Resource/Track/Report buttons and nothing happens?
What am I doing wrong?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Clint755,

Is it possible that you have dragged the edge of the Task Pane so far to
the left that it has almost disappeared? Try toggling the Show/Hide
Project Guide button (left most button on the Project Guide toolbar) off
and on to see if you can see a small portion of the guide bar. With the
Project guide showing then see if you can increase the size of the pane.

I think you haven't enable project guide tool, to do so on MS Project 2007
go to tools/options/ then from options select Interface, select the check box
display project guide the Ok.
