Can't double click to open a Word file Mac OS X

E

Eric Cohen

I am new to the Mac and am using a Powerbook with the latest version of
Panther. I can open any document by double clicking except for a Word
document. (I am using Microsoft Office X.) So for example, if I get an Excel
attachment in Entourage I can open the attachment from Entourage, or save it
to the Finder and double click on it there to open it. That does not work
with a Word attachment. To open the Word attachment, I have to save it to a
directory and then go to Word, and open the file using Word's 'file, open'
command.

The odd thing is that it is intermittent. At first I could not open the
files by double clicking. Then I got the ability to double click. Now I've
lost it again.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Eric

Hi Eric,

I'm having the same problem. It was working and then I did something
dumb and somehow I must have changed a setting somewhere. Let me
know if you figure it out.

Thanks,

Shamron

I can open any document by double clicking except for a Word
document.

Select a Wod Document in the FInder, control-click it and select "open With"
in the contextual menu.
Once youhave re-selected Word inthe list of possible apps, click on the
"apply to all" button.
