Can't Download Controls

B

ActiveX controls are downloaded and installed upon the first login to Project
Server 2003. Some users can install the controls. Others can not. All
users have Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP. All users are running the
latest SPs and patches. I have only seen the problem on XP machines. I
tried enabled about everything I could think of in IE | Tools | internet
options. Any ideas?

Hi Bill,

Sounds like a security issue. Do you have Group policy set up? I would
suggest logging on these machines with local admin, navigate to Project Web
Access. The local admin should be able to download the ActiveX controls. Once
downloaded the controls will be accessable for every user on this machine.
This should solve the problem on these machines
Hope this helps

Hi Bill,

A couple of things of the top of my head...

1. Do the users that can't install the ActiveX components have Admin or
Power User rights on their machine? They will need to have Elevated
Privileges through the use of a Software Installation Group Policy or
through the use of Microsoft SMS or another software deployment package.

2. Do these users have the Project Server added to the Trusted Sites in
their Internet Explorer settings? If you select Trusted Sites and then
click on Custom Level you will see the default settings for ActiveX
controls to:

Download signed ActiveX controls: Enable
Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins: Enable

Let us know what happens

Cheers,

Logging in as the local admin worked. I was able to download the controls.
All other users on the machine could then use the controls.
