Can't drag borders to change column sizes

Hi,

I've suddenly lost the ability to drag table borders to change column sizes.
Wazzup? I can drag rows to change row sizes with no problem. When I try to
do the same for columns, the cursor changes to the two parallel bars as if
it's gonna let me, but it doesn't. This happens with ALL tables, even ones
whose borders I've changed in the past with no problem. This makes me think
it may be due to some global option that I've inadvertently set, but I can't
find anything. I can still change column sizes by typing a new size via
Table Properties, but it's a little frustrating. Can anyone help?

Thanks a lot,

Adrian

No idea what caused this, but after I restarted the pc everything is hunky
dory again.

I spoke to soon. I've lost the ability to drag borders in tables again. It
seems to happen whenver I do the folllowing:

1. Convert one row of a table to text. (The table has three columns and five
rows. The second and third columns of the first three rows are merged.)
The result is that the table splits into two, as expected.
2. Select the bottom table and try to drag any border to change any column
size.
IT'S IMPOSSIBLE
4. Exit and restart Word. Add a new table in a blank document. Try to change
its column sizes by dragging.
IT'S IMPOSSIBLE
5. Restart the pc. Start Word. Add a new table in a blank document. Try to
change its column sizes by dragging.
NOW IT WORKS OKAY!

Maybe this is a known bug?

Thanks,

Adrian

Hi Adrian,

Which version of Word?

With XP, I reproduced your situation and had no problems dragging cell
borders...

Cheers!

Thanks Jean-Guy.

As we speak I have the problem again. I have Word XP. I cannot currently
drag any column borders on any tables.

Shortly after sending the last post (several hours ago) I rebooted. After
this I was immediately able to drag borders. However, I think the scenario
that I reported before (converting a row to text etc) must have just been
coincidental because since rebooting I have now been working with Word for
several hours during which time I have not touched any tables and yet the
problem has restarted. I've no idea why, but it is clear that it was not
just a one-off event.

Perhaps it is related to another program running on my pc? In the past hours
I have been running Word, Outlook Express, Outlook, Virtual PC, Messenger
and Internet Explorer in addition to "background" processes like NAV, Zone
Alarm, Remote Admin and SQL Server.

When I get a free moment later in the week, I'll investigate further and
post back to the group.

Thanks,

Adrian
