Can't edit a form

I have a Word document with Excel charts giving financial information on a
number of companies. When this was set up, if I double clicked on the chart,
it became an Excel document and I could edit the information. This has ceased
to work. How can I get it back

Sorry, not enough detail, we cannot answer.

Which OS? Which version of Word? Excel? Which file format?

It sounds like the chart object has been converted to a picture object, but
as John says without full details it's hard to guess beyond that. Wfhat
happens if you double-click it now?
