Can't Edit Account Info?

In the Accounts dialog box, if I select an account, and click the Edit
button, I get an error message saying:

The action could not be completed.
An unknown error (-30588) occurred.

I'm using OS-X 10.4.2 and MS Entourage 2004 for Mac version 1.1.0.

How can I fix this Entourage error?

A google search of this group turned up the answer:

"This is a known issue that is caused by viewing complex HTML messages
prior
to opening the Accounts window. You can work around it by re-launching
Entourage and then editing your account before opening any complex HTML
messages. "

I'm assuming by Entourage 2004 1.1.0, you mean 11.1.0.

-30588 is the Macintosh Control Manager error, errInvalidPartCode, and
probably is related to Entourage code trying to display controls (like
buttons and scrollbars) in the Edit Account window.

It's a pretty low-level error, and it's not obvious to which control or to
which window it is related, unfortunately.

What type of account is it that you are editing (Exchange? IMAP?)? If you
launch Entourage while holding the Option button down, and you let the
Database Utility that launches Verify your database, does it report any
problems? (The latter seems unlikely or at least unrelated, but it'd be good
to know.)

Hi, Nathan:

This error -30588 happens to me every day. It is cleared for me by
restart of Entourage. I do have the "Display complex HTML messages
preference enabled, and I can confirm that I am able to edit my accoun
information until I display an e-mail with HTML in it. After that, I ge
the error until I restart Entourage.

This is quite an irritation for me, since I have to switch my SMT
settings between offices, and I leave my Entourage open all the time.
receive HTML mail all the time, so leaving it off is quite a
inconvenience.

MBU, Enoutrage is so nice -- can't you fix this problem? I am quit
happy to help you regress it.

As a workaround, I would suggest having a second mail account that just has
the second (say the home) SMTP server, but the same e-mail address, and then
you could switch back and forth when sending mail, or, if you are about to
do a bunch of e-mailing at home, change the default e-mail account to be the
second e-mail account.

We would hope that you would not have any cause to have to be editing the
Account settings on a day-to-day basis, much less multiple times a day. If
people can give us scenarios where this is necessary, we'd be interested --
we'd much rather make it so you can set up your accounts and forget about
those details.
