Can't edit AppleWorks equations in Word OS X

V

Vic Stenger

I have a document in AppleWorks that I am converting to Word on Mac OS
X. I open the equation editors in Word and AW. I paste the equation in
AW in the word equation editor. It puts the equation in place in eh
document. Then, when I go back to edit it it says I can't.

I know that Word cannot edit MathType. But, note that I used the Word
equaiton editor in the first place and it can't edit itself!

I also have run into that problem except that I'm not even trying to
import from another program. At one point, Word X lost the ability to
even let me insert an (equation) object telling me to check if the
program name or location had been changed. Be VERY careful... I think
this may be at the root of my file corruption problem. In both cases
when the file was damaged I recall the program saying that it could
not edit the equation prior to me saving. The equation would be
highlighted in the document with an outline, but the program just
wouldn't open it. Then, I couldn't open the document any longer.
When it attempted a recovery, the text was still there but instead of
the actual equations it just had, equation 1, equation 2, equation 3,
etc. This has not been a consistent problem everytime I use equation
editor but it certainly is aggravating as I've already lost 6 hours of
work.

Hi Vic,

MathType is the full version of Equation Editor. The same company makes both
products. The full version is available for purchase here:
http://www.mathtype.com/

Two things to do:
1. Download and install the updates for office
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx

2. Use Disk Utility to Repair Permssions

If you installed anything from the Value Pack after you ran the Office
update you have to re-run the update and repair permissions again.
