Can't edit copied equations in powperpoint 2007 trial.

L

Leonard

My powerpoint presentation slide contains multiple equations that are
similar. So I enter one equation and then made several copies of it (ctrl+c,
ctrl+v) hoping to make minor modifications to those copies, instead of
entering each equations one by one.
The problem is I can't edit the copied equations. When I right-click the
copied equation and choose "Equation object => Edit", I got the message:
"The server application, source file, or item can't be found, or returned an
unknown error. You may need to reinstall the server application."

How can I solve this issue? thanks.

Leonard.

Moreover, I find that all equations cannot be edited/opened once I close and
reopen the ppt file, with the same error message.
By the way, I use Office Home and Student 2007 Trial on Windows XP SP2.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the reply. Your suggestion is how to change the color of
equations in PPT2007 while mine is fail to edit the equations. Hence it does
not help.

I can't understand why I shouldn't use office trial for real work. Does not
the trial version offer the same functionalities as the release version? I
know the trial has limited amount of time but the final release will be
available before the trial expires (2/28/2007).

It is. The trials are identical to the released product (only the setup
program behaves a bit differently).
How were those equations created?

In powerpoint 2007, I switch to 'Insert' tab, click 'Objects' button, and
then in the 'insert object' dialog box', I select Microsoft Equation 3.0. I
can edit the equation as long as the file remains open. After I close the
file and reopen it, I cannot edit the equations in the file. The error
message is "The server application, source file, or item can't be found, or
returned an unknown error. You may need to reinstall the server application".

The same problem occurs in word 2007 trial. I can insert Microsoft Equation
3.0 object into a word document. But when I close the file and reopen it. I
can no longer edit the equations in the file. Word tells me that "word cannot
open the document; user does not have access priviledges".

Seems very strange.

I can't reproduce this here with the release version. However, your
error messages sound like this is unrelated to it being trial. I'd
suspect it is something with your computer configuration/setup that
isn't quite working.
Which Windows is this?
Do you have any other Office version besides 2007 installed? If yes,
which ones?
Are you saving in the PPTX or the PPT format?

For Word 2007 btw, you know that it now has a built-in equation editor
that is much more powerful than MS Equation 3? The only catch is that
only Word has it. Equations that you create in Word and paste into PPT
will appear there as pictures.

If your real work involves using equations, I think you've already experienced one
of the reasons. They don't work very well in the beta preview, whereas they seem
more reliable in the release version.

Does not
the trial version offer the same functionalities as the release version?

Assuming you're using the Beta Preview, it may not. That's the thing about beta
software. There's no promise of compatibility. Features that appear in the beta
may disappear in the release, files created in it may or may not be readable later.

1) Don't use beta/trial software for real work. That's a good solution for a
LOT of problems.

2) Have a look here; the suggestions are based on the released version of PPT
