No, it doesn't.
A "Read-Only" document in Word can be edited like any other document.
When you come to save it, Word will warn you that it was opened read-only
and must now be saved to a different file name.
But when you open a read-only document, you can edit the file normally.

I think what's happening is word turned my document into a 'read only'
document when I saved it. So I can't make changes to the document - I can
only add text boxes. Does this make sense to you? When I went into the
document again and tried to save it under a different name, it told me it was
a read only document and I had to choose where to save it.
