Can't enter time work period on some tasks

I have a pilot server up and running and have published a
number of projects onto it to test it all out and to learn
how to use it. However, I am running into a problem with
the tasks page in PWA. In my test timesheet I have tasks
from 4 projects assigned to me.
On 2 of the projects I have some tasks in which I can
enter time worked for each day as well as enter
actual/remaining time. This is how I want them all to
show. However, in these projects I also have tasks that
allow me to enter actual/remaining time but the cells for
entering daily time are read-only. I also have 2 other
projects where all tasks are appearing like this. Why is
this happening?
I created all the projects and have not overwritten the
default time reporting method. I have published all,
published assignments, etc. multiple times. I have also
modified and then saved and published. None of these
things have worked. I have also checked the security
setup of categories and groups etc. and all appears to be
correct (I don't see how I could set the tasks to these
settings deliberately).
Can someone help?
Thanks,
Simon
PS Sorry if the answers to this problem have already been
posted but wasn't able to find them with an hour's digging
around.

Dale,

thanks. I had to change this option:
3. In the "Specify the default method for reporting progress on tasks"
section, make sure the "Hours of work done per day or per week..." option is
selected

I thought that having resources report their time everyday
would do the trick.

Also, I didn't realize you have to republish all
assignments after a change to the Tracking Settings -
there should be a warning on that admin screen telling you
that, or at least if you change something.

Thanks,
Simon
