Can't eopn existing files

After years with no problems and using the same XP pro OS, suddenly I can't
open existing files or create new files from within any office 2002
program, from the file/open drop down, the open icon or ctrl+O. When I try
using these methods, the program locks up until I hit the esc. key. I can
open existing files by double clicking on it from a file manager but not
from within the programs. Any ideas ? The "save as" function doesn't work
either. Thoughts?

Thanks;

Pat

This suggests that your office installation has been corrupted. How
about trying to "Detect & Repair" of the office by going to the menubar
and HELP, DETECT & REPAIR. I am sure this facility was there in Office
XP/2002. If not you will need your original CDs.

This might just do the trick.

Let us (me personally) know if it helped.

Thanks; I did try that but it didn't solve the problem.

No luck. Would a system restore work? I don't want to uninstall Office and
lose my thesaurus and Outlook express email setting and data. I also
discovered that although I can start new file in any of the applications, I
can't save that file.

Thanks;
