Can't establish a delegate

When I try to establish a delate in entourage, after I pick the delgate
and click ok, it tries to retrive permissions then I get this response:
Entourage cannot connect to the Exchange server. Make sure that your
password was entered correctly and try again. (Error: 65486).

Now, I know I am connected to the Exchange server and my password is
correct because everything else works correctly. I can get email, view
shared folders and calendars, etc. I can also work around this by
simply adding another exchange account for the person who should be a
delgate, but that seems rather clunky.

Anyone have any ideas?

I have exactly the same experience. Major bummer. I have looked at a
few other posts and it may have to do with SSL. (I connect using OWA
using https/ssl) But I am loathe to try http (w/out SSL) because it
will blow away everything in my exchange account in Entourage...also a
major bummer. Hopefully someone from MSFT will take pity on us and help
us out.

Here is a message thread that was previously on this list that might help
with the delegate problem. My answer to Matthew is at the top and
illustrates what needed to be done in my Exchange environment.

See also the "Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Resource Kit version 2" at:

This is a good article that provides some technical details about delegating
and the need to use the back-end Exchange server to do delegation in
Exchange:

Hope this helps.

Matthew,

Thanks for this information. Initially it did not work for me but put me on
the right path. From what I have learned so far, three things must be set
up right for the "My Delegates" delegation process to work:

1 - In System Preferences, Network, TCP/IP pane: the Search Domain field
must have the Exchange IP domain in it. For example, "xyz.txstate.edu".

2 - It was necessary for us to also modify the Account settings to use the
actual NETBIOS domain that that is used by everyone here to authenticate
against. Previously we were using a fully qualified domain in the domain
field of Account settings for the Exchange account. Changing the domain
from "xyz.txstate.edu" to just "TXSTATE" in our case was needed.

3 - Finally, in our environment at least, it was still necessary to use the
"Advanced..." button in the "My Delegates" pane and specify the delegation
server. We typed in the NETBIOS of the backend server housing the user's
data ("abc" not "abc.xyz.txstate.edu") in the Advanced field prior to
clicking the Add... button to select the person and begin the delegation
process.

I hope this helps others that might have similar problems with using My
Delegates in Tools/Accounts/Edit/Delegates tab.

Thanks again to Matthew. After months of struggle with no results seeing
this feature work for us finally is great news!

Thanks for the info. I'll pass this on to the people who manage our
Exchange Server and see if they can make this work.
