Can't find "Cross-Reference"

I am trying to figure out how to insert cross-references in a document
in Mac Word 2004. According to the Word Help function, under the
header "Creating a Cross Reference," Step Two is "On the Insert Menu
click Cross Reference."

The problem is that the Insert Menu, there is no "Cross Reference."

I'm stuck. Can someone help?

Hello Joe,

Try this: Go to Tools => Customize => Customize toolbars/menus => Toolbars,
make sure "Menu bar" is selected (top left) and "Normal" (bottom left), then
click "Reset".

If you have previously customized your menus, don't do this; post back.
