can't find data1.msi file on my cd to add features

I tried to upgrade some word and excel features which
required using the original disk but I get an error
message that says the data1.msi file can not be found.
Does Microsoft reissue defective CDs?

Hi Wendy,

No, Microsoft doesn't send out defective CDs. :)

This can be caused by several things, but to correct it you will need
to zap the Windows Installer entry in the Registry and reinstall
Office.

Obtain the following utility and use it to remove only the reference
to Office. Once that is complete then you'll need to reinstall Office
to point the Windows Installer to your installation CD:

Since you didn't specify the version of Office you are using here are
the downloads for Office 2000 and Office XP:
