Can't find download

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

I keep receiving an alert that Office requires the 11.5.0 update. However, it can then not locate the download. On searching Mactopia, I find that I do indeed need such an update and here it is. However, again, Safari reports that it cannot find the download page.

Are you on Comcast? This type of problem for Comcast users has popped up in
the past.

If Comcast is the ISP provider they are having a problem with the DNS
servers. The fix is to go to the TCP/IP and enter 68.87.64.196 then on the
next line type 68.87.66.196. Click apply and go back to the Microsoft
Mactopia download page and get the update.

User feedback:

I solved my problem by adding to additional DNS servers to my network system
preferences. I discovered this because my wife's MacBook Pro (not Intel) is
able to connect to receive updates. Here are the DNS servers that worked for
me: 209.188.112.3 and 63.81.160.11. I don't know if this will work for
anyone else, but on my end, so far so good.

One more piece of information that might be of help to some. It turns out
that my DNS servers used by my ISP were just fine for reaching the Microsoft
update site. Apparently my MacBook had picked up a Trojan horse which
replaced my normal DNS servers with two Ukranian servers (or so my ISP
informed me). I had to clean those from my system. I used a very handy
procedure recommended by folks at MacWorld
(http://www.macworld.com/article/60823/2007/10/trojanhorse.html). I don't
know if this will be of help to anyone else having similar problems.

No Diane, I'm with Virgin. I don't even know if they let me change my DNS server, but I'll give your suggestions a try.

Sorry guys. Who or what are Comcast?

One of the largest ISPs in the US.

I had a user just today that was successful doing this.

Go to System Preferences --> Network.

Select Advanced tab. Try these domain addresses:

209.188.112.3
63.81.160.11

If that does not work, resetting to the default might then work. Seems
something in the resetting allows the original settings to work.

OK Diane, here's the thing. I'm in the UK where we don't know from Comcast. I've tried the addresses you suggested and nada.

Forgetting for a moment the software update that just reports that it can't find the server, if I go to this page <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downlo...d=B6D69814-0995-490D-909A-5EC6AE6F64F0#viewer>
In the bottom right panel I can select a download called English(.dmg)

However, when I do so, Safari reports:
"Can't download the page (above) because it can't find the server "download.microsoft.com"

Do you think this ia an upgrade that is denied to UK residents, for example?

Absolutely not! I just posted a note to Mactopia folks to see if I can find
out anything that will help.

Can you test in a new User to see if it will work with a clean User's
folder?

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.

Sorry you are having so much trouble.

No Diane. Doodly-squat. Strange thing is that Safari even suggests tht I search for dowload.microsoft.com and then comes up with several alternatives but alwahys reports that it can't find the server when I try to go to one.
