can't find reason for local 553 error

After recent update to service pack 2, I cannot send messages that have " RE:
" in the subject line. I cannot find a way to turn this feature off. I got
the following error message on the last attempt ( I have changed the name
listed and some of the number codes for security purposes):

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.
Subject: RE: CSS tool
Sent: 10/4/2005 12:47 PM
The following recipient(s) could not be reached:
'(name *****)' on 10/4/2005 12:47 PM
553 sorry, relaying denied from your location [71.***.**.***]

do you have more than one account and does this happen only on mail from
specific accounts?

I believe this might be caused by the fix for the SMTP authentication issue
where outlook would try sending on other accounts if the SMTP didn't accept
the message. Now it NDRs the message if the SMTP server rejects the message.
Verify your SMTP authentication settings and see if it works.

Dear Diane,
Thanks for you quick response and sugggestions. I compared working and
non-working e-mail accounts and found no difference, so I just changed some
first letters in e-mail adresses to capitals so that things would be resaved
when I exited any e-mail setups. At this point in time, the reply function
has started working again. I have noticed this type of flakiness with Outlook
in the past and am not surprised it quit acting up becasue I had done this. I
also know it may start up again. Is it possible hat using an AMD processor
could cause an anomily like this?
BTW, you will note from my original post that the error message said
"relaying denied from your location". Doesn't that mean it had to be within
my machine. The e-mail server I use is in Michigan and these errors were
always instantiously visible in my inbox. There was no customary slight delay
like there is when sending a message through my ISP.
One last comment, I am supposed to rate your response but there is no "rate"
button to click. Am i to assume just saying if it was helpful or not is
rating it?

i've never seen outlook do that - while i've seen people blame AMD for some
problems (and i always get intel's because i run virtual machines) i really
don't think AMD would cause this type of flakiness that is fixed by changing
some letters to caps. Because the sympotms fit the authentication bug, i
really think it was just a problem with outlook communicating with the
server, not the processor.

it was rejected right off, so it's hard ot say if outlook's mapi was locked
up or if the server refused to accept it. If logging was on, we would most
likely know.

Yes, answering helpful or unhelpful is the rating. It will help others who

Turns out this is even more flakey than I thought. It started doing it
again. I think I am seeing a pattern that if I change the account it is going
out on when I hit reply that it is working then.
Suggestions?

(Office Small Biz 2003 on XP, on Dell Inspiron Laptop) since Wednesday. Have
gotten numerous errors and some periods when I couldn't send OR receive.
Currently, I get this message in my inbox immediately on sending a message.

Sent: 1/6/2006 2:15 AM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'(e-mail address removed)' on 1/6/2006 2:15 AM

The test settings in Email Account Options do result in a test email
arriving in my inbox. This does not change regardless of Authentication
selection for outgoing server. What else can I try? Our business depends on
the timely receipt of and response to email messages, so a response as soon
as you can would be awesome. Thank you!!!

The computer just did an automatic update and restarted when I had stepped
away - now I can't send OR receive, but the test settings button still
indicates that all is well. HELP!

This says you're not properly authentication to your outgoing server. Your
ISP domain and your sender address domain don't match.

I am still running a few more tests butthis seems to have fixed the problem.
Apparently the setting was lost when the upgard took place.
