Hello!
I am trying to save a Microsoft for PC document onto my Mac using Microsoft for Mac. I created a folder on my desktop called "documents". I save my document into this folder, but when I go to the folder it's not there. What's going on? Thanks for your help!

Probably: It's saving into your User Home Directory, which already has a
folder named "Documents" in it.

"Documents" is the same concept as "My Documents" in Windows, but in Mac you
have some special-purpose folders outside it.

If you look on your hard disk, you will see a folder named "Users". In
there will be the home folder for every user account on the machine: the one
with your login name is yours.

In your user folder are eight special-purpose folders, amongst them
"Desktop" and "Documents". Your Mac will be MUCH easier to operate and
maintain if you keep ALL files other than Movies, Music, and Pictures in
folders inside your Documents folder.

While you can create folders within the Desktop (which is, itself, a folder)
you will find operating difficult and fiddly if you do. Whenever you open
or save anything, it is going to direct you first to the "Documents" folder.

It's like road rules: you don't have to follow them, but your life gets a
lot easier and more pleasant if you do :)

Cheers

Hi Phillip:

Sure, but we know you're half a century behind the times :)

Unix has a particular "way of doing things". Fall in with that, and things
go well. Choose another path, and don't complain about the bumps in the
road :)

Or the fact that your computer refuses to upgrade :)

Cheers
