Can't force a page break

Word didn't start a new page, even though I inserted a manual page break.
I have tried to fix this using Word Help.
I have Show/Hide on, Hidden text on, Format>Font, but nothing hidden; and
have no hidden text formattetd into a manual page break.
.............................
I'm at the end of a document; I have added three paragraph marks after the
end notes, and formatted them as default paragraph font; and then to body
text so that it is not mixed into the end notes formatting.

I could type there if I wanted to, but I cannot force a page break, either
by Ctrl + Enter, or .by using the Insert menu (Break and Page numbers are
grayed out).

This is a one-section document of 50 pages. I was hoping I could take the
next odd page for an eight-line "About the Author" paragraph, but can't get
there without entering paragraph marks all the way down the side of the
page. Cannot think of any thing else to do.

I've turned off some automatic formatting, but don't know if any of it would
cause this.

You cannot add a page break inside the endnote area. Instead, insert a
section break *before* the endnotes, specify that endnotes should be
placed at the end of each section and then suppress the display of
endnotes for each section but the next last one:

1. At the end of your text (but before the endnotes) click Break on
the Insert menu. At "Section break types", choose "Next page" or "Odd
page", depending on your needs. Click OK to insert the break.

2. On the Insert menu, click Footnote. Click the Options button. In
the Note Options dialog box, click the All Endnotes tab. At "Place at"
choose "End of section". Click OK, and then click Close.

3. Place the cursor in the newly inserted section, now followed by the
endnotes. On the File menu, click Page Setup. Click the Layout tab.
Enable the "Suppress endnotes" option and click OK. (Repeat step 3 for
any additional sections except the one where the endnotes should
actually follow.)

Thank you for a good answer. We really need you folks who are good in what
you're doing. With your notes, I have gone back to Word Help to see if I
could actually find that procedure with key words, but apparently it isn't
there. I've used Word since before it had a version number and I hadn't run
into this problem before. Thanks for telling me how to fix it.

If it will make you feel any better, some of us who have been using Word
since v. 2.0 have only discovered within the past year or so that it is even
possible to add text after the endnotes. That "Suppress endnotes" check box
was quietly introduced in Word several versions back, and none of us had
noticed it (of course MS didn't bother to tell anyone about it).

Stefan and Suzanne:
Thank you, Thank you. Yes, I did need something to make me feel better. I
have always had to be the change agent (no one else, at first, were using
computers and I had no one to answer any of my questions. I've taught Word
'in my arena' almost forever, but only what I've learned on my own. I love
the MVPs. They have saved my neck more times than I can count. Again,
thanks.
