Can't force quit Word

T

Tim

Word is increasingly "hanging" when I try to quit (or occasionally save
or other functions). I cannot escape the spinning beach ball and close
Word - force quit does not work, regardless of the method tried (dock,
keyboard, menu bar or Process Viewer). Any ideas?

I'm using Word X on Jaguar (10.2.8). Machine is a 17" iMac 800.

Download and install the latest Office X updates, which are 10.1.2, 10.1.4,
and 10.1.5 (10.1.3 is unnecessary). They¹re available from Microsoft.

Run Disk First Aid. Instructions on how to run it in OS X are located on
the Apple Knowledge Base.

Try repairing permissions.
For OS 10.2/10.3:
Go to Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities. Open up Disk Utility. Select
your hard disk, then click the First Aid tab. Click the button to "Repair
Disk Permissions".

If none of that works, remove and re-install Office. Remove and re-install
Office X. Insert the Office X CD, then open the Value Pack. Click the Value
Pack Installer. Check "Remove Office", then click "Continue". Run the
"Remove Office" utility. When done, re-install Office X from the CD. Then,
re-apply the updates listed above.
