I know how to format a cell, it just doesn't do what it's supposed to.
I'm trying to do some basic formatting but it doesn't take. For example I want to format numbers as currency, showing dollar signs, decimals etc.
I Highlight cells, Format > Cells>Currency, I select the format I like and hit OK, but nothing changes, just plain numbers aligned to the left of the cell.
Same with dates if I enter 1/1/08, it shows up in the cell as 37986, even after I format the cell as a date, I don't get it? Or if I format the blank cell first then enter the value same thing.
Also, formulas show as the formula, not the value. I see "=sum(b4:b12)", I don not see the numbers in those cells added up like I'm supposed to????
What gives? I ran the latest software update that didn't help ver 11.5
I've used Excel extensively under Windows, very little on Mac, nothing but problems so far.
Thanks!
