I'm trying to use excel to spell out color words for my class so I can
cut them apart and have the kids put them back together. I have one
letter in each cell. My problem is that the lowercase i keeps changing
to an uppercase i. I've never had this problem when I put words in the
cell so i'm guessing its because I only have one letter in the cell and
its changing it to the uppercase. Any suggestions on how to stop
this?? Thanks :)

Dear Teach,

I don't know how to turn off the automatic spell check that converts i
to I, but here is a way to get around the problem. Type
=CHAR(105)
into the cell where you want lower case i.

Another workaround - Type i followed by a <space> then Cmd+Z to undo the
correction.

BTW - I believe it is actually controlled by Word's AutoCorrect feature.

Just a niggle:

Autocorrect is an Office feature, not a Word feature. There's only one
autocorrect list (e.g., ~:Library:preferences:Microsoft:Microsoft Office
ACL [English]), so changing the list in XL will affect Word, though not
until the next time it's booted. The ACL is read on application start-up
and kept in memory until the app is closed, when the ACL is then written
to disk. Which leads to interesting effects when the list is changed in
both Word and XL (or Entourage or PP) and the final saved list depends
on which app shuts down last.

This is caused by Autocorrect.

You can type CMD-z to undo the correction each time it's made, or you
can turn off the feature by choosing Tools/Autocorrect, and unchecking
the "Replace text as you type" checkbox.

Absolutely right - slip of the 'tongue-to-keyboard' on my part :)
