Can't get in to desktop

I bought Microsoft Office for Teachers. I had an old
version of Microsoft Office which I uninstalled. I then
installed the Microsoft Office for Teachers. Upon restart
the following screen appeared

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down
to prevent damage to your computer.

UNMOUNTALBE-BOOT-VOLUME

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error
screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears
again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is
properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask
your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows
updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly
installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory
options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use
Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your
computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and
then select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:

***STOP: 0X000000ed(0X0000032,0X00000000,0X00000000)

I then restarted the computer and pressed F8 and got a
screen that allowed me to start on Safe Mode and several
other modes. I have tried to start the computer in all the
options but I just come up with the same above message.

I need help. How can I get the computer to run correctly.
What are my options.

I greatly appreciate any help anyone can give me.

This has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Office - the fact that it
occurred after Office was installed is mere coincidence. Suggest you post in
a group appropriate to your operating system.
