Can't get interactive buttons to work!

C

Chuck1966

On this site www.rugbytabletennisclub.net I'm trying to replace the text
links on the left with interactive buttons. The interactive buttons option
is dimmed! On the body of the page (on the right) the option is not dimmed!
Obviously I'd like the buttons on the left so that changes happen on all
pages .... What to do??

thanks Ron - I suspected that was the problem - bit daft really surely a
shared border is exactly where one would want to use Interactive buttons!!

Use a Dynamic Web Template (DWT) instead of shared borders. DWTs are
much more flexible, and interactive buttons are fine with them.

I inserted the buttons into the main page and then dragged them into the
shared border but since I reloaded my computer I cant do it anymore! What
happened? I downloaded all the updates and installaed them to no avail. Any
ideas??

My whole site is done this way! Only today, after reloading my pc, was I not
able to do it. Basically, I inserted the button into the main page, and then
dragged it up into the shared panel at the top. Always. Now when I try to
drag the button up to the top where the panel is, I get the circle with the
line accross it. Check out my site at www.thehughesgroup.ie

Unless I'm misunderstanding the shared panel thing. Its where all the links
are on the top of the page that do not change regardlessof where you go on my
site, yes?

Page will not load in IE7 or FireFox. Possibly a server problem.

FrontPage does not allow you to place Interactive buttons in the shared
borders because THEY DO NOT WORK in that location - unless you take
considerable care in editing the code FP generates, or restrict the pages
that use the shared border to folders at the same level as the _borders
folder.

Switch to using a DWT, which works with IBs in all folders.

Well, all I can tell you is that I built ALL my site in design mode, and I
don't know the first thing about writing HTML code, nor editing it. I saw
that the insert interactive button was greyed out when the shared panel was
the target, so I inserted the button into the main page, and then dragged it
up to the shared panel, and not to contradict you too much, nor can I explain
how, but as I say, I built my entire site this way! Only this morning, after
reloading my laptop, and reinstalling FP, was I no longer able to do it. If
you look at my site now www.thehughesgroup.ie, you will see the interactive
buttons in the shared panel. However, about half an hour ago, having
followed your advice, I got assistance from the office assistance program
(http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/assistance/HA011277231033.aspx) which is
titled "how to convert from shared panel to dwt" I think I have managed to
get the DWT way working, which is great, and I thank you very much.

The ability to drag them to the SB was a bug in FP corrected by Office SP 2
- just because it "worked" before doesn't mean it was supposed to and is supported any more

Glad you moved to DWT - a better solution
