can't get PDS demos to work

I cannot get any of the demo's to run properly.

Testing the GeneralPing with PDSTest returns 9008. I'm obviously doing
something wrong but what could it be?

I've followed the instructions in the "creating a managed code PDS..."
article.

What (user) errors have other people been guilty of?
