Cant get right screen resolution for new 20" monitor

Hello all,

I'm not very tech savvy about computer hardware as you'll notice so hope you
can help me.

My old CRT monitor died so I went out today and just bought up a new LCD
monitor that was on special and suggested to me by the sales clerk:
SOYO - Citrine Series - 20" Wide TFT LCD Monitor (TFT active matrix SXGA LCD
Monitor; 1680 x 1050 Native Resolution; 300 Nits High Brightness and 800:1
Sharp Contrast)

I enjoy the bigger size display but my pc doesn't have any screen resolution
setting close to the monitor's 'native resolution'. (I didn't know it was
"widescreen" when I bought it and what that really meant).

I went to the Control Panel am now using the 1024x768 pixels setting with 32
bit color quality setting. It is the best resolution I can get however when I
view photos etc they are somewhat distorted - stretched horizontally.

I use Windows XP SP3.

My only other resolution choices are:
1280 x 768
1280 x 800
1280 x 1024
1600 x 1200

What should I do?
Would changing the DPI settings in the 'Adavnced Settings' tab help?

Thanks for your help!

Diane's right - your issue is a Windows matter, not an Office matter... Or
more accurately a hardware issue. But her link won't get you where you need
to go - those are Win Office groups only, not OS groups:)

Try starting here:

Did you install any driver software that may have come with the display? My
guess is that you need a new video card that supports the capabilities of
your new display, but the best source of what's required is the display
mfr's support site - see what they recommend.

Good Luck |:>)
